Chelsea Boss Maresca Rejects Manchester City Links as Pure Rumour
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has branded fresh talk connecting him with a move to Manchester City as nothing but hearsay.
The Italian manager, who once served as Pep Guardiola's assistant in Manchester, responded to the ongoing speculation about his next move.
Maresca, appointed Chelsea boss in the summer of 2024, is under contract that runs until 2029, with a potential extension option.
"It doesn't affect me at all because I know that is completely unfounded," Maresca stated. "And at this moment, there is no time for such distractions."
He went on to explain, "First of all, because I have a contract here for several more years. And my attention, I said many times, is just about this club and I'm very proud to be here. But again, it's rumour. One week ago I was connected to a role in Italy with Juventus. So I ignore it because I know that is without foundation."
Chelsea, currently sitting in fourth position in the Premier League, are scheduled to face Newcastle United on Saturday in a 12:30 GMT fixture.
Tensions Following Previous Remarks
Maresca's latest statement come in the wake of he referred to a recent 48-hour period as his most difficult since joining Chelsea.
Those original words had sparked widespread talk of a potential rift between the manager and the club's ownership hierarchy.
When pressed if he had discussed matters with the club's leadership, Maresca responded, "We are in the same building, so we talk about different things. But about the post-Everton press conference, no."
The manager however affirmed he would definitely remain at the club next season and urged the fans to "continue to support the team".
In more positive news, Maresca revealed that sidelined forwards Liam Delap and Estevao Willian could be back ahead of schedule, potentially in contention for a fixture against Aston Villa on 27 December.
Perspective: Unresolved Tension
The apparent disconnect between Maresca and the club's hierarchy persists as an unhealed issue that still create unease.
While there has been no further escalation of the situation publicly, there has also been no apology forthcoming, creating the matter unaddressed.
The atmosphere during the manager's press conferences has grown notably awkward, raising concerns it could undermine what has up to now been a promising beginning to the campaign.
Chelsea's on-field position is positive: they are fourth in the league, have qualified for the Carabao Cup last four, and can achieve a better European draw with strong results in their remaining games.
