Former Physician Accused of Sexual Assault Charges Involving Thirty-Eight Patients

Prosecutors have stated that a former doctor has been charged with carrying out sexual assaults against 38 victims who were under his care.

Details of the Grave Charges

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of numerous acts of sexual assault – including acts against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 and 2021.

A senior prosecutor stated, “Legal teams have diligently worked to assist a thorough and intricate investigation, carefully reviewing the evidence to determine that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

Scope of the Police Inquiry

These allegations follow what investigators described as a “complex investigation” into alleged assaults at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.

The defendant is scheduled to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.

Breakdown of Charges

Prosecutors said the 45 charges he is charged with:

  • Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
  • 17 counts of assault by penetration.
  • 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • 1 count of attempting to assault by penetration.
