Much like bad weather hit the north-west the night before, Manchester City swept United away at the Etihad. It was a statement three-nil triumph for the City coach's side due to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Hemp. It was a display that clearly signaled their leadership claims as they strengthened their standing at the top of the table.

Back-to-Back Setbacks for United

This result marked successive Women's Super League setbacks for Marc Skinner’s side for the maiden instance since May 2024, placing them a significant margin off the top team with their championship aspirations in serious doubt.

United’s ability to juggle league and continental soccer with a small roster has been a frequently analyzed issue since they earned a place in the UCL. Reviewing the calendar, it always seemed this was the matchday that would seriously challenge this ability. Sadly for the opposition, they looked weary from start to finish, the landmark win against the French side clearly having left its mark.
