The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
