Toronto Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Matchup Versus defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer was instrumental for the Astros claiming the championship in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their first Fall Classic following 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the seventh seventh game of the AL Championship Series.

Down by two runs, the star outfielder hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning, leading the sole Canadian team in the majors to a 4-3 win in the best-of-seven series. Awaiting them are the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the defending champions, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.

"I'm just so happy for our team, the city, the nation," commented Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that won the 2017 World Series. "What an unbelievable moment."

The veteran has now hit twenty-three post-season home runs, ranking him third in history after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not another person on planet Earth that I'd choose in that spot other than George Springer with his October magic," noted Schneider.

Seattle, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, are still the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a championship series.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "certainly that it's painful" after his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but praised their efforts throughout the year.

"It's a special team. It's a shame that we finished on the losing end of the series," he continued.

Toronto secured the World Series on both previous visits in 1992 and 1993, and will host the Dodgers in the opener on this Friday.
